Wilkes Men's Volleyball Falls in Five Set Thriller at New Jersey City
JERSEY CITY, NJ – Trailing 2-1 the Wilkes University men's volleyball team rallied to win the fourth set before falling in the fifth and deciding set at New Jersey City 3-2 Monday night.
Wilkes fell to 6-13 overall following the road defeat while New Jersey City improved to 9-12 overall after the home win.
New Jersey City opened the match with a 26-24 win before the Colonels took the second set 25-18. The hosts captured the third set 26-24 before Wilkes rallied to dominate the fourth set 25-10 to force a fifth and deciding set. Wilkes jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the fifth set after a
Daniel Sales (Laflin, Pa./James M. Coughlin) kill, but New Jersey City rattled off nine straight points after the Colonels led 11-6 to seal the home victory.
John Pietrzyk (Glen Lyon, Pa./Nanticoke) led all Wilkes hitters with a career-high 18 kills and eight digs.
Thomas Bogarowski (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) and
Daniel Sales (Laflin, Pa./James M. Coughlin) each tallied 10 kills. Sales also led the Colonels passing game with 33 assists. Bogarowski added a team-high 14 digs.
Wilkes returns home Thursday night hosting Medgar Evers College at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
