King's Early Surge Lifts Lady Monarchs to 18-3 Win Over Wilkes Women's Lacrosse in MAC Freedom Opener
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting King's College scored 11 first half goals on way to an 18-3 victory over Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon in both teams' MAC Freedom opener at Schmidt Stadium.
 
With the defeat Wilkes slipped to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in MAC Freedom games. King's improved to 5-5 on the year and 1-0 in league contests.
 
King's scored the first eight goals of the game and never looked back taking a comfortable 11-2 advantage to the halftime break. The Lady Monarchs then scored seven more times unanswered in the second half to seal the road conference victory.
 
Wilkes' Reilly Meanor (Etters, PA/Red Land) and Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) notched the Lady Colonels two goals in the first half both unassisted at the 8:17 and 2:59 marks. Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) scored Wilkes lone second half tally notching her 28th goal of the season in the process.
 
King's held a decisive shot advantage at 34-19 keeping most of the action in its offensive zone throughout. Wilkes struggled to gain possession in its own end converting only 7-of-16 clear attempts outside of its own zone.
 
Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) finished with four saves starting in net for Wilkes. Melania Velasquez (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) entered in relief playing the final 7:32 making two stops.
 
Wilkes continues its home stand on Saturday hosting Delaware Valley University at 1:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
