Big First Half Lifts DeSales Over Wilkes Women's Lacrosse 14-7
EDWARDSVILLE – After trailing 3-1 in the first seven minutes of the game, visiting DeSales University rallied for eight straight goals to take a 9-3 lead to the break which they would never relinquish on way to a 14-7 victory over host Wilkes University on Wednesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes dropped to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in MAC Freedom games following the home defeat.
Reilly Meanor (Etters, PA/Red Land) put Wilkes on the board first scoring just fifty seconds in before DeSales answered with a goal at the 25:47 mark.
Maura Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) and
Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) pushed Wilkes ahead with goals at the 23:37 and 23:07 marks before the furious DeSales rally began.
The Bulldogs went on to score the game's next eight goals to end the first half taking a 9-3 lead to the break and all of the momentum.
Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and Meanor scored for Wilkes to open the second half cutting the DeSales lead to 10-5 with 24:30 left to play, but three straight DeSales goals put the visitors ahead for good up 13-5 with just 13 minutes remaining. Meanor added her third goal of the game and Brownsey her second late in the second half that proved too little too late for Wilkes.
