Early Deficit Dooms Wilkes Women's Lacrosse on Senior Day against Manhattanville 18-6
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team faced off with Manhattanville College in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom action at Schmidt Stadium, where it fell behind early in its 18-6 defeat on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Colonels are now 4-8 overall, 0-5 in MAC Freedom play.
Manhattanville got the scoring started 42 second into the game with an unassisted goal.
Callie Flowers (Lexington Park, MD/Leonardtown) tied the game with 26:56 remaining in the half when she sprinted the full length of the field and put a laser past the Valiants goalkeeper.
Manhattanville followed that score by registering nine consecutive tally's to take a 10-1 lead with 4:18 left until halftime.
Wilkes scored the next three goals to cut the deficit to 10-4.
Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) notched her first score of the game with an assist from
Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) with 3:12 left in the first half before Boccio notched the next two goals, one at 2:13 with and assist from Held and one with 28:35 remaining in the second half with an assist from
Kayla Cadden (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central).
The Valiants countered by scoring eight consecutive to open up an 18-4 lead.
Maura Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) put in two unassisted goals to finish the scoring, on with 1:11 left and one with just one second left on the clock.
Boccio led the Lady Colonels with three points on two goals and an assist. Brownsey (two goals) and Held (one goal, one assist) each finished with two goals.
Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) made 16 saves for Wilkes, facing a total of 45 shots.
The Lady Colonels return to the field on Wednesday when they travel to Eastern for a 4:00 p.m. MAC Freedom game.
