Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Drops 20-10 Verdict Against DVU

EDWARDSVILLE – Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Maura Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) combined for seven of Wilkes' ten goals but it was not enough to overcome visiting Delaware Valley University as the Aggies scored ten goals in each half on way to a 20-10 win on Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

With the loss Wilkes slipped to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in MAC Freedom games while DVU improved to 7-2 overall and evened its conference mark at 1-1.

The Lady Colonels jumped out to a 5-2 lead thanks to two goals from Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley), two from Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and one from Reilly Meanor (Etters, PA/Red Land). From there it was all DVU as the Aggies scored eight unanswered goals over the final 13:43 of the first half to take an 10-5 advantage to the break.

Brownsey notched the first of her three goals to start the second half scoring unassisted at the 26:57 mark to cut the lead to 10-6. Three more Aggies goals pushed the lead back to 13-6 before back-to-back strikes from Brownsey brought Wilkes to within 13-8.

DVU then scored seven of the game's next nine goals to clinch its first MAC Freedom win of the season. Boccio added two more goals for Wilkes at the 8:23 and 2:37 mark of the second frame.

Boccio led all Wilkes scorers with four goals while Brownsey followed with three tallies. Held added two goals and two assists while Meanor scored the Lady Colonels other goal.

DVU held a 35-30 shot advantage while posting a 23-9 edge in draw controls.

Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) finished with ten saves in net for Wilkes playing all but 6:27 in the cage. Melania Velasquez (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) entered in relief making three saves.

Wilkes returns to the field Tuesday traveling to local rival Misericordia University for a MAC Freedom contest at 4:00 p.m. in Dallas, Pa.
