Wilkes Men's Volleyball Takes Two at Staten Island Tri-Match
 
STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Wilkes University men's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday besting host Staten Island 3-0 before posting a thrilling 3-2 win over Brooklyn College.
 
With the two wins Wilkes moved to 9-15 overall on the season.
 
Wilkes opened the day with a sweep of Staten Island by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-17. John Pietrzyk (Glen Lyon, Pa./Nanticoke) led all Wilkes hitters with a match-high 14 kills, four service aces and nine digs. Thomas Bogarowski (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) followed with 12 kills and six digs. Daniel Sales (Laflin, Pa./James M. Coughlin) paced the Colonel passing game with a match-high 29 assists while Mike Morrison (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer) added nine kills from his middle hitter position.
 
The Colonels finished the day with a 3-2 victory over Brooklyn College taking the sets two (25-21) and three (25-18) after falling 25-23 in the opening set. Brooklyn answered with a win in the fourth set 25-20 before Wilkes clinched the match with a 15-13 decision in the fifth and deciding set. Sales recorded a kill and Morrison an ace to seal the final two points for Wilkes in the fifth set.
 
Pietrzyk enjoyed the best outing of his career finishing with 18 kills and 11 digs. Sales followed with 15 kills while Bogarowksi added 11 kills, 16 assists and ten digs. Sales paced the passing game again with 34 assists on Wilkes' 61 kills.
 
Wilkes concludes its inaugural season on Monday when the Colonels travel to Penn State Altoona for a match scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
