Wilkes Field Hockey Falls to Alvernia 4-1
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University field hockey team fell by a 4-1 final to Alvernia University at Schmidt Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Colonels are now 2-4 this season.
The Golden Wolves got the scoring started in the 11
th minute.
Junior
Haley Gayoski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) tied the score at one in the 23
rd minute when senior
Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) played the ball toward the circle allowing Gayoski to line a backhanded shot past Alvernia's goalkeeper.
The Golden Wolves took control of the game with three unanswered goals in the 30
th, 49
th, and 50
th minutes.
Junior
Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made 11 saves for Wilkes.
The Lady Colonels return to play on Tuesday when they host Moravian College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game.
