Wilkes Men's Soccer Upended by Scranton 3-0
SCRANTON, Pa. – Host University of Scranton scored all three of its goals in the first thirty-one minutes of play on way to a 3-0 non-conference victory over Wilkes University Wednesday night at Fitzpatrick Field.
Wilkes saw its two-match win streak come to an end falling to 4-5 overall on the season. Scranton improved to 6-3 overall stopping a three-match losing skid in the process.
Connor Casey got Scranton on the board early taking a James Harris cross from the far side into the box and finished past Colonel keeper
Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) at the 21:04 mark. Matt Bolock made it 2-0 with a goal off a cross from Jon Roberts at the 30:19 mark. Just :41 later
Justin Hammert (Archbald, PA/Scranton Prep) put home a breakaway goal five yards out to end the scoring rally for the Royals in the first half.
Scranton held a 16-3 shot advantage in the contest while garnering six corner kicks to Wilkes' two attempts. Gallagher finished with two saves in net while
Stephen Johnson (Bear Creek Twp, PA/Coughlin) entered in relief making three saves in 50 minutes.
Wilkes returns to the pitch Saturday when the Colonels open MAC Freedom play at Delaware Valley University at 2:30 p.m. in Doylestown, Pa.
