Wilkes Women's Volleyball Drops Two in Puerto Rico Classic Opening Day
SAN JUAN, P.R. – The Wilkes University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to begin play at the Puerto Rico Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Colonels fell 3-0 to both Widener and Bridgewater (VA).
Widener took the first match of the day by scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 28-26.
Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley) led all Wilkes hitters against the Pride finishing with a team-high ten kills and 15 digs.
Grace Boyle (Andreas, PA/Marion Catholic) added five kills and ten digs while
Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) paced the Lady Colonels passing game with 13 assists.
Wilkes then fell to Bridgewater in its second match of the day by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-22. Mikovich again led the hitters with nine kills and six digs.
Alex Ferrier (Cressona, PA/Blue Mountain) followed with six kills and four digs while
Kayley Schinski (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) added four kills and two digs. Morgan posted 12 assists on Wilkes' 22 kills in the match.
Wilkes concludes play at the tournament on Sunday with matches against Wesley and Simpson at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
