Wilkes Women's Basketball Falls to Manhattanville in MAC Freedom Home Opener
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's basketball team fell to Manhattanville 93-38 in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contest at the Marts Center Saturday afternoon.
Wilkes is now 3-8 overall and 0-2 in MAC Freedom action while Manhattanville improved to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Sophomore
Vanessa Whitecavage (Shenandoah, PA/Marian Catholic) led the Lady Colonels with seven points after making her Wilkes debut on Wednesday.
Amber Grohowski (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) scored a season-high six points and
Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) led the team with six rebounds.
Wilkes shot 70.4 percent from the free-throw line going 19-of-27.
Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross) was a perfect 4-of-4 from the line for her four points. Roberts,
Emily Sofranko (Jim Thorpe, PA/Marian Catholic),
Kelsey Yustat (Hunlock Creek, PA/Northwest Area), and
Sierra Smith (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) also scored four points each.
Sarah Coutu led Manhattanville with 26 points on 8-of-12 shooting and Nancy Caballero added 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Colonels are back in action Monday night when they travel to Penn State Hazleton for a non-conference game slated for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
