SPRINGFIELD, Ma. – Karyna Vargas (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) scored just seven minutes in and Jessica Egan (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) doubled the lead in the 12^th minute with a penalty kick as the Wilkes University women's soccer team defeated Mount Saint Mary 2-0 in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels improved to 10-7-2 with the win.

Wilkes led in shots 12-7 with five hitting the target compared to three for the Knights. Both teams earned two corner kicks.

Samantha Cecere (Batavia, NY/Batavia) made three saves in net for the Colonels.

Wilkes returns to the field tomorrow for the second round against host Springfield College starting at noon.
