Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Drops High Scoring Affair to Neumann
ASTON, PA – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team fell to Neumann University 7-3 this afternoon. The Knights used four second period goals to pull away from the Colonels.
The loss knocks Wilkes to 0-5 this season. With the win, Neumann improves to 1-4.
The Knights got on the board early in this one as they scored just 1:58 into the opening period.
Neumann would strike again in the beginning of the second as they scored two goals in a span of 52 seconds to push their lead to 3-0.
The Colonels would answer back six minutes later when Ashley Murry (Morgantown, PA/) found the back of the net off a pass from Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH/) to cut the deficit to two.
Unfortunately, the Knights would add two more before the end of the period, one of which came on the power play to send the Colonels into the dressing room trailing 5-1.
Wilkes would capitalize on a power play of their own as Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH/) scored, with the assist going to Laura Brezinski (Ellicott City, MD/), to cut the margin to three just 2:39 into the final period.
Neumann would answer yet again, both of the power play variety to put the game away at 7-2.
The Colonels wouldn't go down without a fight as Kendall Castro (Killingworth, CT/) scored her second goal of the season with just over two minutes remaining in the contest.
Wilkes returns to the ice tomorrow when they welcome the Delaware University club team to the Toyota Sportsplex for a 3:30 p.m. puck drop.
