Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Drops Contest to Nazareth

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team dropped a 7-0 contest to visiting Nazareth College at the Toyota SportsPlex in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels fell to 0-4 with the loss.

Nazareth breached the net three times in the first period with goals at 1:49, 11:29, and 13:48 as the Colonels exited the ice down after the first 20 minutes. Alexa Rango (Hopewell Junction, NY/) made 25 saves in the crease for Wilkes in the initial period.

The Colonels came within inches of tying the game mid-way through the second period when Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH/) lined a wrist shot from the blue line that was deflected in the slot by Cally Erickson (Carbondale, CO/), but Nazareth goaltender Emily Smith made the quick adjustment with puck to keep Wilkes off the board.

The Golden Flyers notched the only score of the second at 17:27 as Nazareth lead by four after two periods.

The Golden Flyers finished with three goals in the third to reach the final.

Rango finished with 26 saves before being replaced by Ally Joly (Lincoln, RI/), who made 35 saves in relief. Erickson led Wilkes with four shots.

The Colonels return to action next Saturday when they travel to Neumann University for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop.
