Longboat Scores in Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Loss to SUNY Canton
WILKES-BARRE –
Nicole Longboat (Rochester, NY/) notched her first career goal for the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team but it was the visitors from SUNY Canton that recorded the 7-1 victory at the Toyota SportsPlex Friday evening.
With the loss Wilkes dropped to 0-7-0 overall while SUNY Canton improved its record to 3-3-2.
Ally Joly (Lincoln, RI/) made the first nine stops of the game between the pipes for the Colonels including three on the Kangaroos first power play opportunity. However, before the power play ended Sarah Kosnaskie was able to find the back of the net at the 11:45 mark of the first period.
Canton would add goals at the 16:55 mark and the 18:48 mark to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Roos added to their lead with their second power play goal of the game 3:44 into the second period.
Joly left the Colonels net at the 11:11 mark of the second period after making 22 saves.
Alexa Rango (Hopewell Junction, NY/) entered to play the second half of the contest and made six saves immediately to kill off two Colonel penalties.
Canton would find the net on the power play one last time with seven seconds remaining in the second period to make the score 5-0 after 40 minutes.
Wilkes began the third period with offensive zone pressure as
Kendall Castro's (Killingworth, CT/) attempt was saved. Moments later Longboat found herself open in front of the Kangroos goal and did not miss as Castro fed her a pass that she slid past Brooke Susac.
Ashley Murry (Morgantown, PA/) added the second assist on the play at the 2:31 mark of the final period.
Goals at 16:52 and 19:19 finished off the scoring for Canton.
Rango finished with 28 stops for her single-game high this season. Susac recorded her third win of the season with 11 saves.
Seven different players scored for Canton including Noelle Niemiec who finished with a game-best plus-4 rating.
The two sides will square off again tomorrow (Saturday) at the Toyota SportsPlex. Faceoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
