Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Strong Third Period Leads Wilkes Men’s Ice Hockey to 4-2 Victory

Strong Third Period Leads Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey to 4-2 Victory

WILKES-BARRE – Angelo Marquart's (Hackettstown, NJ/) first career goal broke the tie just 1:20 into the third period before Michael Gurska (Revere, MA/) would add an empty netter to put away the Bryn Athyn Lions on Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup at the Toyota Sportsplex.

Wilkes improves to 8-4 on the season while Bryn Athyn falls to 4-10.

The Colonels would get on the board early in this one when Chris Dalfarra (Warrington, PA/) scored his second goal of the season at the 4:59 mark of the first period on an assist from Paul Cimilluca (Colonia, NJ/).

The Lions would respond later in the period on the power play to send the teams into the first intermission tied at 1-1.

Bryn Athyn would take a 2-1 lead on an even strength goal at the 9:28 mark of the second period.

Wilkes would answer back quickly when Tyson Araujo (Oak Bluffs, MA/) found Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ) in front of the net and his backhander beat the Lions goaltender to knot the game back up at 2-2 heading into the third period.

The Colonels upped the pressure in the third period and were rewarded with a 2-on-1 break that culminated in Wade Novak (Oak Ridge, NJ/) feeding Marquart for the game-winning goal.

The Lions goaltender was bombarded with 43 shots from the Colonel offense while only mustering 18 on Wilkes netminder Brandon Gordon (Sault Ste. Marie, MI/), who improved to 7-4 between the pipes.

After the holiday break, Wilkes hits the road to take on Post University in Connecticut on January 5th at 8:00 p.m.
