ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The Wilkes University wrestling team captured wins in seven of ten bouts including the final four matches to secure a 24-10 victory at host Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon in Thompson Gymnasium.
 
Wilkes pushed its dual match win streak to three standing 7-1 on the year. It marks the best start since the 2016-17 season when the Colonels also began the year 7-1 through eight matches finishing with 20 victories that season.
 
After Elizabethtown took a 3-0 lead with a decision at 125-pounds, Wilkes' Brock Horton (Towanda, PA/Athens) answered back tying the match with a 2-1 decision win at 133. A major decision at 141 for the Blue Jays gave the hosts the advantage back at 7-3 but the lead was short-lived as Kyle Medrow (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) took an 11-5 decision at 149 and John Ritter (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) scored a technical fall (18-2) in 4:02 at 157 giving the Colonels a 11-7 lead it would never relinquish.
 
Elizabethtown's final points came at 165 as Colton Shriner posted a 10-6 decision over Michael Brown (Plains, PA/Coughlin) with the Blue Jays still trailing 11-10. From there it was four straight wins for Wilkes that sealed the match and the Colonels third straight win dating back to December 1. Nicholas Racanelli (West Creek, NJ/Southern Regional) wrestled to a 10-4 decision at 174 and Ashton Gyenizs (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) bested Dayne Ross by major decision 16-3 at 184. Moustafa Almeky (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) and Roger Horton (Towanda, Pa./Athens) rounded out the Wilkes' winners with 4-0 and 7-4 decisions to clinch the match.
 
Wilkes remains idle through finals week before hosting the 86^th annual Wilkes Open on December 22 starting at 9:00 a.m.
