Wilkes Baseball Bangs Out 16 Hits in Dominating Win over Mount Aloysius
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Wilkes University baseball team knocked around 16 hits without allowing a single run as it continued its winning ways to start the 2018 season in its 11-0 win over Mount Aloysius on Monday morning.
The Colonels improved to 2-0 on the season.
Wilkes wasted no time scoring as it plated four runs in the top of the first inning. After
Brady Wing (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) singled and
Joe Champi (Dupont, PA/Pittston) was hit by a pitch,
Jarret Clymer (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) doubled home Wing before
Matt Reinert (Telford, PA/Souderton) singled in Champi and Clymer.
After Reinert stole second
Vincent Uzzi (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) singled to bring him home.
Wing advanced the lead to 5-0 in the top of the second when he singled, stole second, advanced on a groundout, and scored on a passed ball.
The Colonels added two more runs in the top of the fifth when Clymer reached second on two errors, stole third, and scored on an RBI single from Reinert. Reinert followed by stealing second, advancing on a groundout, and coming in on a single from
Bryan Nifenecker (Amityville, NY/St. Dominic).
Three more runs came in to score in the top of the seventh on Uzzi's second career homer that scored Reinert. Nifenecker followed with a double and scored on a single from
Nick Pronti (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood-Ridge).
Wilkes finished the scoring in the top of the ninth after Clymer singled, advanced on a passed ball, reached third on a groundout, and scored on Nifenecker's RBI single.
Jeremy Worlinsky (Swoyersville, PA/Holy Redeemer) earned his first win of the season, tossing six scoreless innings, surrendering only two hits with two strikeouts while walking none.
Matt Maranca (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick),
Zach Metz (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown), and
Andrew Indzonka (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) followed with a scoreless frame each to wrap up the victory.
Reinert was perfect at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three rbi's. Nifenecker went 3-for-5 with two rbi's and one run scored in his collegiate debut while Wing and Clymer two hits apiece.
The Colonels return to the field tomorrow when they face Eastern Mennonite University for a non-conference game at noon.
