Late Runs Doom Wilkes Baseball against Penn College
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College crossed the plate five times over the last four innings to hand the Wilkes University baseball team a 7-4 loss on Thursday evening at the Ripken Experience.
The Colonels fell to 3-2 this season.
Penn College got on the board in the top of the second with two runs on one hit and one error.
Wilkes took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with four runs on two hits and an error.
Michael Patrizio (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) knocked a two-run single to center bringing home
Vincent Uzzi (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) and
Jonah Harder (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) to tie the game. Following a hit-by-pitch and an infield single,
Joe Champi (Dupont, PA/Pittston) was hit by a pitch that brought home Patrizio and
Nicholas Capozzi (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) reached on a fielder's choice that scored
Brady Wing (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) and chased the Wildcats starter.
Penn College scored unanswered in the sixth, seventh, and ninth to put the game away.
Noah Durnin (Bath, PA/Northampton) went the first 5.1 innings on the mound for the Colonels, surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Colin Smith (Purdys, NY/Somers) pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk.
Patrizio finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI's and one walk. Champi, Capozzi,
Keaton Allison (Aiken, SC/Aiken), and Uzzi had one hit apiece.
Wilkes returns to action on Friday when it faces New England College for a double-header.
