Big First Half Lifts King's Over Wilkes Women's Lacrosse 17-5

WILKES-BARRE – Host King's College scored 13 of its 17 goals in the first half on way to a 17-5 MAC Freedom victory over Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

Wilkes dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-2 in MAC Freedom games while King's improved to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in conference contests.

King's opened with two goals within the first two minutes of the first half before Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) notched her 27th tally of the season to cut the lead in half. King's then used seven straight goals over the next 12 minutes to take a 9-1 advantage with 13:30 left in the half.

Ashley Burkhardt (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) scored Wilkes' second goal of the game to stop the King's rally taking a pass from Laura Singleton (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) before depositing the ball into the back of the cage. King's answered with four unanswered goals to end the frame to take a commanding 13-2 lead at the break.

Wilkes controlled most of the second half in its own offensive zone scoring three of the first four goals of the stanza. Sierra Duman (Smyrna, DE/Smyrna) scored her 14th goal of the season unassisted at the 28:27 mark before Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) found the back of the net darting past several King's defenders to earn the goal. Singleton finished off the Wilkes' scoring with her second of the season off an assist from Boccio.

King's ended the game with three consecutive goals to seal the home conference victory.

King's held a 33-17 shot advantage. Wilkes struggled to clear possession out of its defense end especially in the first half converting 13-of-19 clearing attempts while King's was successful in all but one attempt (21-of-22).

Wilkes owned a 14-10 advantage on draw controls led by Held and Kirsten Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Kenwood)'s five each.
