Boccio and Held Provide Offense for Wilkes Women's Lacrosse in 19-11 Loss at Delaware Valley
DOYLESTOWN, PA –
Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) scored six goals and
Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) added five but the scoring tandem's offense was not enough to push the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team past an early deficit as the host Delaware Valley University notched the 19-11 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) victory Tuesday at Lipinski Field.
Wilkes dropped to 3-12 on the season and 0-6 in the MAC Freedom while Delaware Valley improved to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in conference games.
The Aggies scored the first three goals of the game before Held scored to put the Lady Colonels on the scoreboard 5:15 into the first 30-minute half. The Aggies then scored the next four goals to go ahead 7-1 with 20:33 left in the first half. Held answered with her second goal just 10 seconds later after earning a draw control.
Boccio scored three free position goals in a span of just over one minute with the third strike pulling Wilkes within four goals at 9-5 with 12:37 left on the first half clock. Delaware Valley answered Boccio's run with four consecutive goals before Boccio netted another free position opportunity to bring the score to 13-6 at halftime.
Wilkes added the first two goals of the second half on strikes by Boccio with 23:07 left and Held with 15:40 left. An Aggies goal was followed by two more from Held to cut the lead back to four goals at 14-10 with 14:07 left to play. Both goals were scored on free position shots by Held, with the first coming on the man-up. The tallies brought Held's season goal total to 46.
The Lady Colonels were unable to cut any further into the Aggies lead with the home team scoring the next five goals. Boccio then scored her sixth of the game and 36
th of the season on a free position shot with 2:07 remaining.
Boccio went 5-of-9 on free position shots as the Lady Colonels converted a season-high seven free position chances.
Boccio and
Danielle McCole (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) led Wilkes with five ground balls and McCole led the way with four caused turnovers. Held collected six draw controls and
Kirsten Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Kenwood) added five.
Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) made seven saves playing the first 52 minutes while
Melania Velasquez (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) made one save in the final eight minutes of action in goal for the Lady Colonels.
Taylor Teliszewski led the Delaware Valley attack with nine points on seven goals and two assists and Amanda Dietrich made 13 saves.
Wilkes closes out the 2018 season with a trip to Center Valley, Pa. to take on DeSales University at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
