Dallas, PA – The Wilkes University women's cross country team opened its 2018 season Friday evening by finishing fourth of six teams at the Misericordia Invitational.

Results

Sixty three runners took part in the 4k race to start the season before the ladies run the normal 6k championship distance at future events. The five Colonel scoring runners combined for 131 points which tied with Penn College for fourth place but Wilkes was awarded the tiebreaker with three of the five scoring runners finishing higher.

Host Misericordia was the team champion with 27 points.

Sophomore Autumn Pedron (Pottsville, PA/Minersville) was the top Colonel finisher in 30^th place with a time of 17:51.7. Freshman Sara Ross (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) (37^th, 18:16.6), freshman Sydney Rochette (Colchester, CT/Academy of Aerospace and Engineering) (40^th, 18:45.1), junior Caroline Rickard (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) (44^th, 19:08.8) and junior Kyleigh Smeltzer (Manchester, PA/Northeastern) (47^th, 19:19.8) rounded out the scorers for Wilkes.

Junior Kaitlin Sutton (Shavertown, PA/Lake Lehman) (53^rd, 20:13.5), junior Jill Weston (South Canaan, PA/Western Wayne) (56^th, 21:14.2) and freshman Arianna Ryan (Brockton, PA/Tamaqua) (57^th, 21:14.2) rounded out the finishers.

The Colonels return to the course on Saturday, September 8 at the Stevenson Invitational in Stevenson, Md.
