SELINSGROVE, PA – Lauren Shiplett (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) notched her second career goal just before the first half ended and the Wilkes field hockey team held strong throughout the second half of play to stun No. 14 Kean University 1-0 in the consolation game of the Connie Harnum Classic Saturday afternoon.
 
Wilkes collected its first victory of the 2018 season evening its overall mark at 1-1 on the year.
 
After scoring her first collegiate goal in Wilkes' opener yesterday, Shiplett came through yet again for the Colonels taking a pass from Lauren Baldwin (Clarks Summit, PA/Lackawanna Trail) and finding the back of the cage with :24 left until the half. The play was setup when Wilkes was awarded a penalty corner taken by Haley Gayoski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West).
 
Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) held strong in the cage throughout the final 35 minutes to collect her first shutout win of the season as Kean took two penalty corners with under five minutes remaining but could not put it past Kendra or the Wilkes defense.
 
Kean held a 13-6 shot advantage while taking 15 penalty corners to Wilkes' three attempts. Kendra finished with 10 saves for Wilkes including four key stops in the second half. Shiplett and Gayoski were both named to the All-Tournament Team for their play over the two-game tournament.
 
Wilkes returns to the field Wednesday traveling to La Plume, Pa. for a matchup against Keystone College at 4:00 p.m.
