Egan's Goal Lifts Wilkes Women's Soccer to Win over William Paterson
WAYNE, N.J. –
Jessica Egan (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) headed in a corner kick from
Nicole Harmer (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) in the 31
st minute to provide the only scoring as the Wilkes University women's soccer team defeated William Paterson University by a 1-0 final on Wednesday evening.
The Colonels improved to 2-1 with the victory.
The Pioneers got the first two opportunities with shots in the 17
th and 24
th minutes, the later requiring a save from Wilkes goalkeeper
Courtney Stanley (Yardville, NJ/Steinert).
Haley Evans (Deptford, NJ/GCIT) and
Nicolette Towlen (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) each had an opportunity sail wide before the end of the first half.
The Colonels out-shot William Paterson 5-2 in the second half to hang on for the victory. Wilkes also held an advantage in corner kicks 4-2.
Stanley made two saves to earn her second victory of the season.
The Colonels return to action on Saturday when they travel to Bard College for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
