Three Consecutive Goals Lift Wilkes Field Hockey to 3-2 Win at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After allowing a goal in the second minute, the Wilkes University field hockey team rebounded nicely with three consecutive goals to earn a 3-2 victory at Moravian College on Wednesday evening.

The Colonels improved to 4-3 on the season with the win.

The Greyhounds scored on a breakaway at 1:47 to jump out to the early advantage.

Wilkes tied the score in the 17th minute when Zoe Stepanski (Dallas, PA/Dallas) found Lauren Baldwin (Clarks Summit, PA/Lackawanna Trail) off a penalty corner who laced a shot into the net for her third goal of the season.

The Colonels took the lead right before halftime when they were awarded a penalty corner as time expired. Stepanski this time found Haley Gayoski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) who ricocheted a shot off Moravian's defense and past the goalkeeper as the clock read 0:00 for Gayoski's third goal of the season.

Wilkes took a two-goal lead in the 43rd minute when Amber Grohowski (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) took a pass from Kacee Diehl (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton) and tapped the ball in for her first score of 2018.

The Greyhounds cut the deficit to one with a penalty stroke goal in the 55th minute.

Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made four saves for the Colonels in the victory.

Wilkes finished with 18 shot attempts compared to nine for Moravian. Twelve of the Colonels attempts were on net while six hit the target for the Greyhounds. Wilkes dominated in penalty corners 18-3.
