Second Half Barrage Lifts Moravian Over Wilkes Men's Soccer 4-1
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Moravian College broke open a 1-1 tie early in the second half scoring three consecutive goals on way to a 4-1 non-conference victory over Wilkes University Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes slipped to 1-1-1 overall following its home debut defeat while Moravian improved to 2-1-1 on the year after the road win.
After the teams went scoreless over the first 45 minutes of play, Matthew Clayton put Moravian on the board first with a goal at the 59:30 mark. Just :22 later,
Ed Lukowski (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) scored unassisted for Wilkes tying the game at 1-1.
From there it was all Moravian as the visitors notched goals at the 63:21, 73:43 and 89:38 marks respectively to break open the match and earn the non-league victory.
Moravian held an 11-7 shot advantage in the match while the Colonels attempted four corner kicks to the Greyhounds three attempts.
Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) finished with three saves in net for Wilkes playing all 90 minutes.
The Colonels remain home hosting Clarks Summit University on Wednesday with first kick scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
