The Wilkes University wrestling team will host the John Reese Duals this Sunday at 11:00 a.m. inside the Marts Center. The Colonels will face Lackawanna College (9-6), Penn State Behrend (2-11) and SUNY Oneonta (6-4) in three dual matches. No. 13 TCNJ (9-1), No. 21 RIT (8-1), the University of Scranton (5-5) and Keystone College (4-15) will also compete at the duals.
 
• Round 1 begins at 11:00 a.m. – Wilkes vs Lackawanna, Scranton vs RIT, TCNJ vs Oneonta, Keystone vs Penn State Behrend
 
• Round 2 follows at approximately 12:30 p.m. – Wilkes vs Penn State Behrend, Scranton vs Keystone, TCNJ vs RIT, Oneonta vs Lackawanna
 
• Round 3 concludes the day at approximately 2:00 p.m. – Wilkes vs Oneonta, Scranton vs Penn State Behrend, Keystone vs RIT, TCNJ vs Lackawanna
 
• Nicholas Racanelli (West Creek, NJ/Southern Regional) is ranked at No. 4 in the 165-pound weight class of the January 23rd edition of the NWCA Individual Rankings and has a 23-1 overall record. He has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference Wrestler of the Week three times this season.
 
• Joining Racanelli in the NWCA Individual Rankings are five other grapplers that will take to the mat Sunday. RIT has three ranked wrestlers in Chris Horton (No. 10 – 133), Kaidon Winters (No. 3 – 157) and Dempsey King (No. 8 – 165). Dan Kilroy is ranked No. 8 at 174 for TCNJ and James Bethel is ranked No. 2 at heavyweight for Oneonta.
 
Colonels Notebook
• Two weeks ago the Colonels went 4-1 at the Budd Whitehill Duals in Williamsport, Pa. After an opening loss to Springfield, Wilkes defeated Ohio Northern, No. 21 Washington and Lee, Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and Oswego State. During the event Racanelli went 5-0 with his second victory earning him his 100th of his career. Thomas Stokes (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) and John Ritter (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) also were a perfect 5-0 over the two day event.
 
• Racanelli placed second at 165-pounds at the Ned McGinley Invitational to open the 2018-19 season on November 3. Stokes placed third at 141-pounds and Ashton Gyenizs (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) placed fourth at 174-pounds. Wilkes finished fifth of 16 teams.
 
• Racanelli wrestled his way to the 165-pound title and Nicholas Bauer (Coplay, PA/Wyoming Seminary) captured the 125-pound crown at the Gettysburg Invitational on November 10. Kyle Medrow (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson), Gyenizs and Moustafa Almeky (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) placed second while Dylan O'Connor (Somerset, NJ/Bishop George Ahr) and Ritter placed third. Wilkes finished second out of six teams.
 
• Wilkes went 4-0 at the Southeast Duals on November 17 with Racanelli and Gyenizs going a perfect 4-0 on the day.
 
• Wilkes finished with a 2-1 record at the McDaniel Duals on December 1 as Stokes led the way with a 3-0 record.
 
• The Colonels defeated Elizabethtown on December 8 by a 24-10 margin in a road dual match.
 
• Wilkes went 3-1 at the North/South Duals on January 5. The Colonels opened the day with a tight victory against the University of Southern Maine before pulling off an upset of No. 19 Stevens Institute of Technology. Wilkes won five of 10 bouts against No. 25 Messiah but fell before finishing the duals with a convincing victory over Camden County College.
