Stevenson Hands Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey 5-1 Loss
Reisterstown, Md. – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team dropped a road game at Stevenson University 5-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs used a pair of goals in the second and third periods to break a 1-1 tie and pull away from the Colonels.
The loss drops Wilkes to 0-10 this season while Stevenson improves to 4-8-1.
Stevenson took an early 1-0 lead when they scored just 29 seconds into the opening period.
Wilkes responded quickly with Kendall Castro (Killingworth, CT/) scoring her third goal of the season at the 2:53 mark of the first period to knot the game up at 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
The Mustangs capitalized on the power play in the second to go ahead 2-1 at the 7:47 mark before adding an even strength marker with seven seconds remaining in the period to build a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Stevenson took advantage of another power play opportunity in the third period to push the margin to three at the 11:28 mark.
The Mustangs added one more goal in the closing minutes to send the Colonels home with a 5-1 defeat.
Ally Joly (Lincoln, RI/) and Alexa Rango (Hopewell Junction, NY/) split time in the crease for the navy and gold making 37 and 22 saves respectively.
Wilkes hits the road on Friday, January 11th when it heads to Post University for a 3:00 p.m. puck drop.
