Second Half Goals Propel Wilkes Field Hockey Over Delaware Valley 2-1 on Senior Day
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Host Wilkes University scored two second half goals on way to a 2-1 MAC Freedom victory over Delaware Valley University Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium. The Colonels honored their four senior members on the squad in a pregame ceremony prior to the win.
 
Wilkes moved to 10-8 overall but more importantly 3-3 in MAC Freedom games standing tied for third place with Stevens University. Wilkes owns the tiebreaker thanks to its home win last week over the Ducks. Delaware Valley dropped to 5-11 overall and 1-5 in league games.
 
Delaware Valley scored its lone goal of the contest at the 8:03 mark of the first quarter as Samantha Collyer took a long pass into the circle and spun around a Wilkes defender before depositing the ball in the back of the cage.
 
The teams went scoreless the rest of the half with Wilkes dominating play in its offensive end most of the first 30 minutes.
 
Zoe Stepanski (Dallas, PA/Dallas) added her second penalty stroke goal of the season when she beat the Aggies goalie high and to the stick side to tie the game at 1 6:06 into the third quarter.
 
Ali Dunn (Pittston, PA/Pittston) then made the comeback complete notching the game-winning tally with just over 11 minutes left in the final frame thanks to a pass from Maddie Kelley (Dallas, PA/Dallas) that she one-touched before drilling a shot to the lower left of the goal.
 
Wilkes held a decisive shot advantage at 18-7 while garnering 10 penalty corners and holding DVU to zero corner attempts.
 
Vanessa Damgaard (Elysburg, PA/Columbia Montour Area Vocational Technical School) made two saves in net for Wilkes on way to collecting her seventh win of the season.
 
Wilkes hosts Misericordia University in its final regular season game of the year on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
