Wilkes Women's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Overtime Setback to DeSales
CENTER VALLEY, PA – Host DeSales University scored in the first overtime period to defeat the Wilkes University women's soccer team 1-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Wilkes dropped to 3-3-0 in the MAC Freedom and 6-7-1 overall. The Colonels are in the fourth and final position in the conference standings with one league game remaining. DeSales improved to 4-1-1 in the league and 13-3-1 overall with the victory to clinch a postseason berth in the conference tournament.
Allie Trick scored at the 98:29 mark as her attempt trickled just over the goal line to hand the Bulldogs the victory. Sam Monteforte was credited with an assist from her initial shot on the play
Karyna Vargas (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) had the first opportunity of the game just 49 seconds in but her attempt was saved by Lia Gaccione. The Bulldogs had 11 shots compared to three for the Colonels in the first 45 minutes but
Samantha Cecere (Batavia, NY/Batavia) made three saves.
In the second half
Haley Evans (Deptford, NJ/GCIT) had a shot in the 81st minute that was stopped and Cecere made a save in the 90th minute to keep the game scoreless as the contest went to overtime. DeSales found the game-winner 8:29 into the first overtime.

Tatiana Mancera (Miami, FL/Archimedean Upper Conservatory) each had two shots during the game for the Colonels. Cecere stopped six shots in goal for Wilkes while Gaccione earned the shutout for DeSales with three saves.
The Colonels return to action on Tuesday with their final non-conference game of the regular season at SUNY Oneonta starting at 3:00 p.m. The two teams tied last season 1-1 at Schmidt Stadium.
