Mancera's First Half Goal Lifts Wilkes Women's Soccer Over Oneonta
ONEONTA, N.Y. –
Tatiana Mancera (Miami, FL/Archimedean Upper Conservatory) notched her second career goal late in the first half and the Wilkes University women's soccer team stood strong on defense on way to a 1-0 shutout non-conference victory over host Oneonta State Tuesday afternoon at Red Dragon Field.
Wilkes improved to 7-7-1 overall following its final non-conference match of the season. Oneonta dropped to 6-9-3 overall following the home defeat.
Mancera's goal in the 32
nd minute proved to be the difference-maker as the rookie stole a loose ball in the box and deposited it into the back of the net.
Oneonta held a slight 14-11 shot advantage, but seven of the Colonels 11 shots reached the goal while four of the 14 Red Dragon shots found their way to net.
Mikayla Ronczka (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) started and played the first 45 minutes making four saves while
Kendall Koch (Asbury, NJ/Warren Hills) played the second half to combine for the shutout in net for Wilkes.
Wilkes concludes MAC Freedom play Saturday with a road match at Delaware Valley University starting at 7:00 p.m. A win over the Aggies would clinch a berth in next week's conference postseason tournament for the Colonels.
