Wilkes Women’s Ice Hockey Falls 3-0 Against Post

WILKES-BARRE - The visiting Post University Eagles defeated the Wilkes University Women's Ice Hockey team 3-0 in Saturday afternoon's non-conference matchup held at the Toyota SportsPlex.

The Colonels record drops to 0-5-0 on the season while Post University improves to 4-11-0 on the year in this non-conference game.

The two teams had a slow start with the first period going 0-0 leading into the first intermission. Wilkes goaltender Alexa Rango (Hopewell Junction, NY/) recorded 15 saves in the first 20 minutes, and accumulated 37 over the course of the game with a .944 save percentage. 

The Eagles came flying out in front in the second period with the first of 3 goals scored at 17:09. This was followed by two late period goals for Post at 2:26 and 0:41 left before the second intermission. 

The Colonels were able to hold the Eagles in the third period to no goals with Rango adding another 10 saves on the day. 

A number of Colonels posted shots including three from Erica Sheaffer (New Hartford, NY), Valerie Koenig (Arlington, TX), Ashley Murry (Morgantown, PA), Abby Miller (Webster, NY) and Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH). Laurenne Fraser (Salt Lake City, UT) led the Colonels in faceoff wins adding 10 for Wilkes, followed by Tubbs who added six wins for a total of 26 on the game.

The Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey team shot 22 times recording the highest number in a game for their 2019-2020 season. 

The Colonels seek redemption as they return to the action in tomorrow's non-conference game against Post at the Toyota SportsPlex at 3:30 p.m.
