Flynn Sets Single-Game Goals Record in Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Win over Suffolk

WORCESTER, Ma. – The Wilkes University men's ice hockey team showed no ill effects from Thanksgiving Dinner after defeating Suffolk University by a 9-0 final in the first round of the Steve Hoar Invitational hosted by Becker College on Saturday evening.

The nine goals are the most scored in a single game while the nine-goal victory is the largest margin for victory for the young program. Sophomore Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ/) continued his torrid pace over the last week, setting a new program-record with four goals.

The Colonels improved to 7-1 on the season and are on a seven-game win streak.

Flynn got Wilkes on the board with a four-on-four goal at 6:55 in the first with assists from Tyler Barrow (Massapequa, NY/) and Michael Gurska (Revere, MA/).

Tyson Araujo (Oak Bluffs, MA/) doubled the lead with a power-play tally at 19:00 in the first with assists from Flynn and Barrow as the Colonels entered the first intermission with a 2-0 advantage.

Flynn got his second score at 8:20 in the second, assisted by Xavier Abdella (Albany, NY/) and Dylan Kuipers (Andover, NJ/).

Danny Reidel (Wayne, NJ) got in the goal column with an even-strength goal at 11:59 in the second with assists from Joey Pasquini (Schenectady, NY/) and Paul Cimilluca (Colonia, NJ/) giving Wilkes a comfortable 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Flynn started the scoring in the third at 9:15 with a power-play score with an assist from Nick Fea (Oak Ridge, NJ/).

Ryan Galvin (Atlanta, GA/) (11:24) assisted from Pasquini, Flynn (14:05) assisted by Reidel, Fea (PP, 17:26) assisted by Phil Erickson (Eau Claire, WI/) and Gurska, and Pasquini (19:20) assisted by Reidel finished the scoring for Wilkes.

Flynn finished a game-high plus-six. Fea and Araujo ended the game plus-four while six Colonels were plus-three.

Wilkes finished 63 percent (38-60) on faceoffs.

Michael Paterson-Jones (Baldwinsville, NY) stopped all 17 shots he faced to earn his first career shutout.

Wilkes returns to the ice tomorrow at 1:40 p.m. for the finals of the Invitational, where it will face Franklin Pierce University, who defeated Becker 7-2 in the first game.
