Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Holds Off Anna Maria for Program's First Victory
WILKES-BARRE – Five separate Colonels scored goals to set a program single-game high in goals scored as the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team emerged from the Toyota SportsPlex Saturday night with their first-ever program victory.
The Colonels (1-6) held off a barrage of Anna Maria College (1-8-1) shots in the final moments to take home a 5-4 victory. The victory was the first for head coach

The Colonels claimed an early 2-0 lead in the first period. Sophomore
Cally Erickson (Carbondale, CO/) put home an early goal 3:24 into the game after a beautiful pass from fellow sophomore forward
Laurenne Fraser (Salt Lake City, UT) from the boards, before freshman defender
Valerie Koenig (Arlington, TX) made it 2-0 9:24 in with an assist from sophomore forward
Ashley Murry (Morgantown, PA).
The AMCATS snuck in a goal only :48 before the end of the period, but Fraser struck back 2:57 into the second with an assist from Erickson and freshman defender
Abby Miller (Webster, NY). The AMCATS managed to tie it up 3-3 heading into the third period, with a power play goal 6:18 in and another one at the 14:15 mark.
Aggressive play to begin the third period gave the Colonels the edge, as they put 10 shots-on-goal in the first half of the frame. Freshman forward
Quinn Rodefeld (Blaine, MN) gave the Colonels the lead again 4:38 into the final frame with an assist from fellow freshman forward
Andrea Delvecchio (Orange, CT), while sophomore forward
Kendall Castro (Killingworth, CT) put home the Colonels' first-ever game-winning goal at the 5:41 mark with an assist from Murry and sophomore forward
Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH).
The AMCATS didn't give up, notching another power-play goal 17:21 into the third period. After pulling their goalkeeper in the final minute, the AMCATS put five shots on goal but Joly staved off the assault to earn the Colonels their first program victory.
Joly earned 28 saves in her first-ever victory. The Colonels won the faceoff battle 29-22, and outshot the AMCATS 35-32 on the evening.
The Colonels look to turn their first win into a pair of wins tomorrow, as they host Anna Maria yet again at the Toyota SportsPlex. The puck will drop at 3:30 p.m.
