Wilkes Wrestling Pushes Win Streak to Eight with 36-12 Victory Over Penn College on Senior Night
 
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University wrestling team took extra points in all seven of its winning bouts pushing its dual match win streak to eight as the Colonels cruised to a 36-12 victory over Penn College on Senior Night on Friday at the Marts Center.
 
18019With the win Wilkes improved to 18-3 overall, not suffering a dual match defeat in almost a month's time. Penn College dropped to 11-13 overall in dual matches.
 
After Wilkes was awarded a forfeit at 125, Dylan O'Connor (Somerset, NJ/Bishop George Ahr) and Thomas Stokes (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) went back-to-back with major decisions 8-0 and 15-4 respectively at 133 and 141 to extend the lead to 14-0. Kyle Medrow (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) was the fourth Colonel to earn extra points taking a 16-0 technical fall in 5:12 at 149. John Ritter (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) followed with a pin of Jesse Walker in 3:54 at 157 and Nicholas Racanelli (West Creek, NJ/Southern Regional) posted the second Wilkes' technical fall winning 19-3 in 5:55 at 165 as the Colonels led 30-0 heading into the final four bouts.
 
Ashton Gyenizs (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) was the final winner on the night pinning Dylan Gettys in 4:40 at 174. Prior to the match Wilkes honored its five senior wrestlers, Patrick Miko (Derby, CT/Derby), Stokes, Ritter, Racanelli and Gyenizs for all their hard work and dedication to the Colonel wrestling program. Racanelli was also presented with his 100-win plaque, a feat the senior reached in early January, by Wilkes University Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Paul Adams.
 
The Colonels are back on the mat on February 8th traveling to Ithaca College for a dual match at 7:00 p.m.
