Wilkes Women's Hockey Drops Home Finale Against Utica on Senior Day
WILKES-BARRE – After trailing by just one goal after one period of play, the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team suffered an 8-0 defeat against visiting Utica College in the Colonels home finale Friday night at the Toyota SportsPlex.
Wilkes dropped to 0-14-1 overall following the home loss while Utica improved to 15-8-1 overall on the season.
Utica's Elizabeth Dohner broke the scoreless game late in the first period when she scored the first of her four goals on the day at the 16:04 mark.
Utica used five unanswered goals in the second period, including three more from Dohner, to take a 6-0 advantage to the third period.
A power play goal from Katrina Cornick and even-strength tally from Olivia Hirschy rounded out the scoring in the final frame for Utica.
Utica held a decisive 74-6 shot advantage controlling most of the game in their offensive end.
Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI) finished with a season-high 66 saves in net for Wilkes. The 66 saves were also a Middle Atlantic Conference high in saves for a goalie this season.
Wilkes will conclude its inaugural season tomorrow when the two teams meet again this time in Utica, N.Y. for a 3:00 p.m. puck drop.
