Wilkes Men's Basketball Set for ECAC First Round at Brooklyn College

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's basketball team is set for a First Round game in the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament at Brooklyn College tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. The Colonels earned the No. 1 seed in Pod 4 and will play the No. 4 seeded Bulldogs inside West Quad Center Gymnasium.

Wilkes will compete in the ECAC Tournament for the second consecutive season after advancing to the semifinals last year. The Colonels enter at 18-9 overall and were 9-5 during the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) regular season. The Izzi Metz led squad advanced to the MAC Freedom Championship game for the first time since the 2015-16 season as the No. 2 seed by defeating Eastern University before falling 78-66 to DeSales University on Saturday in the title game.
 
Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional), the all-time three-point leader at Wilkes with 285, was selected First Team All-MAC Freedom for the second time. The senior ranks third on the team averaging 15.3 points while also contributing 4.9 rebounds and a team-high 3.6 assists. Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) leads the Colonels averaging 16.3 points while adding 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists. Tommy Bowen (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) averages 14.0 points, a team-high 7.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Pecorelli and Bowen were both Second Team All-MAC Freedom selections this season. Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) rounds out the Colonels quartet averaging in double-figures as the junior came in at 15.9 points while leading the team with a .551 field-goal percentage. The Honorable Mention All-MAC Freedom selection also averages 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
 
Connor Evans (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) rounds out the Colonels starting five as the senior guard averages 7.7 points and 2.4 assists. Jack Bova (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) is a three-point threat off the bench as the sophomore hits at a 48.2 percent clip from behind the arc while averaging 3.6 points in 9.8 minutes-per-game this season. Landon Henry (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) (17.1 minutes) and Zach Walser (Marcellus, NY/Bishop Ludden) (8.7 minutes) are also key contributors off the bench for the Colonels.
 
Brooklyn, out of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), enter at 15-12 overall. The Bulldogs led by the CUNYAC Coach of the Year Jeffrey Jean-Baptiste finished as the No. 4 seed after a 9-7 regular season in the conference and defeated No. 5 seed Medgar Evers College in the first round before falling to top-seeded Baruch College in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
 
Five Bulldogs average in double-figures scoring led by Anthony McClean's 14.9 points. Jordan Wright averages 12.9 points while Jade Spencer leads the team with a .524 field-goal percentage and 9.7 rebounds while putting in 12.6 points. Noah Shy scores 12.0 points and Michael Tesoriero averages 10.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and leads the team with 6.3 assists while being named a Second Team CUNYAC All-Star.
 
The winner will advance to a quarterfinal round game on Friday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m. They will face the winner of the other Pod 4 matchup between the No. 2 seed Rutgers-Newark (13-12) and No. 3 seed Stevenson University (14-12). The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals of the ECAC Tournament will be held at Hood College in Frederick, Md. from March 1-3.
