Wilkes Men's Tennis Edges Yeshiva 5-4
NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Wilkes University men's tennis team edged out host Yeshiva University 5-4 in a non-conference dual match Sunday afternoon at the Binghamton Racquet Club.
Wilkes improved to 4-3 overall following the win while Yeshiva dropped to 5-5 on the season.
The Colonels took two of three doubles matches on way to a 2-1 lead.
Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) and
Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) began the match with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 pairs.
Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) and
Andrew MacDonald (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) made it 2-0 with an 8-4 win at No. 1. Yehsiva picked up an 8-6 victory at No. 2 to close out doubles competition.
Murphy then pushed the advantage to 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. After Yeshiva won at No. 2 singles, White made it 4-2 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Larry Scartz (Woodbridge, VA/Home School) clinched the match at No. 4 posting a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Wilkes makes its home spring dual match debut Saturday hosting Franklin and Marshall at 1:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
