Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Win Streak Snapped at SUNY Maritime
BRONX, N.Y. – The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team fell by a 15-9 final at SUNY Maritime on Saturday in non-conference action, snapping a four-game win streak in the process.
The Colonels stand at 4-2 on the season.
Maritime went up 2-0 just under six minutes into the game.
Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) got Wilkes on the board at the 23:18 mark with an unassisted goal before Ashley Burkhardt (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) tied the score at 19:20 with an assist from Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton).
After the Privateers retook a two-goal advantage, Burkhardt closed the gap with an assist from Boccio before Boccio netted a second unassisted goal to tie the score at four with 6:38 left until halftime.
SUNY Maritime scored the next three goals extending into the second half to go up 7-4 with 27:01 left in the game.
Boccio continued her hot scoring, registering two more unassisted goals to bring the deficit back to one at 7-6.
From there, the Privateers outscored the Colonels 8-3 to seal the victory.
Boccio finished with five goals and two assists for seven points to lead the attack. Lerch and Burkhardt each finished with two goals apiece.
Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) made nine saves in the cage for Wilkes.
The Colonels return to the field tomorrow when they will host Medaille College for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game at Schmidt Stadium.
