Wink Notches 100th Career Goal as Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Falls to Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – John Wink (Glenside, PA/Abington) became the first player since the program rebirth to reach 100 goals for a career, but the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team fell to Bridgewater College by a 12-8 final in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Colonels are now 2-2 on the season.

Bridgewater started the scoring with three straight goals over the first 9:56 before Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland) got Wilkes on the board at 4:34 in the first.

The Eagles finished the scoring in the first quarter and opened the second quarter with unassisted tallies.

Wilkes cut the score to 5-3 with back-to-back unassisted scores from Wink at 12:04 and 6:30.

Bridgewater finished the scoring in the first half with 3:50 remaining and entered the break with a 6-3 lead.

The Colonels came out with a comeback on their mind as Wink scored an unassisted man-up goal with just under two minutes played followed by a man-up goal from Nico Lorenzo (Howell, NJ/Howell) assisted by Myers to make it 6-5 with 11:13 left in the third quarter.

The Eagles reopened a four goal advantage after scoring three straight to finish the third quarter leading 9-5.

Lorenzo made the score 9-6 with an assist from Wink with 11:35 remaining in the fourth followed by a goal from Bridgewater to keep the difference at four at 10-6. Wink scored his 100th career goal with 5:27 left in the game.

The Eagles added two more goals before Wink finished the scoring on a man-up goal assisted by Lorenzo with 3:04 on the clock.

Carter Whittemore (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) made 19 saves in the cage for Wilkes.

Wink finished with six points on five goals while Lorenzo added three points with two goals.

The Colonels return to action on Saturday when they host Mount Saint Vincent for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game at Schmidt Stadium.
