Weaver's Overtime Goal Sends Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Over Delaware Valley 13-12
DOYLESTOWN, PA – Wilkes University's
Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) scored the game-winning goal 1:12 into the first overtime to lift the visiting Colonels to a 13-12 MAC Freedom victory over host Delaware Valley University Saturday afternoon at Lipinski Field.
With the important MAC Freedom win Wilkes improved to 8-5 overall and evened its league mark at 2-2. Delaware Valley fell to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in conference contests.
With Wilkes leading 12-7 midway through the fourth quarter, the Aggies rallied to score five unanswered goals tying the game at 12 with under one minute remaining sending the game into the extra session.
From there it was Weaver who came to the rescue scoring the game-winner, his first of the game, to send the Colonels home with the victory.
The game also marked the third straight one-goal game and second consecutive overtime contest for Wilkes.
Carter Whittemore (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) recorded the win in net for Wilkes finishing with ten saves.
Wilkes returns home Wednesday for a MAC Freedom matchup against Misericordia University at 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
