Wilkes Women's Tennis Takes Down Giants 9-0
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team blanked the Keystone College Giants 9-0 on Sunday at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
The win improves the Colonels to 9-3 on the season.
Doubles play started with #2 Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) and Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) shutting out their opponents 8-0. Rachel Thomas (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) and Nicole Gaetani (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) followed suit in their #3 doubles match with another 8-0 win over the Giants. #1 Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) and Dana Saliyev (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) capped off the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory.
Wilkes rolled through singles play only dropping a total of two games in six matches.
#3 Markle started things off with a 6-0, 6-1 win that was followed by a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories from #2 Thomas and #4 Malone respectively.
After #1 Erin Volutza (Sinking Spring, PA/Lancaster Catholic) dispatched her opponent 6-1, 6-0., #5 Cieri and #6 Gaetani closed out the match with identical 6-0, 6-0 wins.
The Colonels return to Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play on Wednesday, April 17th when they welcome Eastern to the Ralston Athletic Complex for a 3:30 match.
