DeSales Posts 20-11 Victory Over Wilkes Women's Lacrosse; Boccio Records 200th Point
EDWARDSVILLE – Wilkes University's
Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) posted four points including the 200
th of her career but visiting DeSales University outscored the Colonels 13-5 in the second half on way to a 20-11 MAC Freedom win Wednesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes dropped to 6-8 overall and 0-6 in league games following the home defeat. DeSales improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in MAC Freedom contests.
Boccio and
Sierra Duman (Smyrna, DE/Smyrna) gave Wilkes an early 2-0 lead just under five minutes into the game as Boccio notched her 41
st and Duman her 18
th of the year. DeSales answered back with two goals tying the game at 2-2 with 19:07 on the first half clock.
Camryn Devitt (Northampton, PA/Northampton) gave the Colonels the lead back one minute later scoring off an assist from Boccio. After another Bulldog goal tied the game for the second time,
Ashley Burkhardt (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) scored back-to-back, one coming off a free position and the other off a helper from Boccio on the man-up advantage to give Wilkes a 5-3 advantage.
From there DeSales scored four straight goals to take back the lead at 7-5 with 7:27 remaining in the half forcing a Wilkes timeout. Devitt recorded her second goal of the game unassisted with 1:47 left in the half to send the Colonels to the break trailing 7-6.
After a DeSales goal opening the scoring in the second half,
Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton) and Burkhardt struck the back of the net for consecutive goals to tie the game for the third time at 8-8. Boccio collected her 200
th career point on an assist on Burkhardt's goal.
The teams traded goals over the next seven minutes as the game went tied at 10-10 with 20:56 remaining.
Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI/Tilton) and Devitt posted the goals for Wilkes during the stretch.
From there DeSales ran off ten of the game's next 11 goals to open up a 20-11 lead with under one minute left on the clock. Devitt notched her fourth strike of the game for Wilkes' lone goal of the stretch.
Devitt finished with five points on four goals and one assist. Boccio followed with one goal and three helpers while Burkhardt added three goals.
Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) finished with a career-high 22 saves in net for Wilkes.
Wilkes concludes its season Saturday with a MAC Freedom road matchup at FDU-Florham starting at 1:00 p.m.
