Bloomsburg Snaps Wilkes Men's Tennis Win Streak at Three
BLOOMSBURG, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team hit the road on Thursday afternoon to test themselves against the Division II Huskies, who ultimately prevailed 6-1 at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
The defeat drops the Colonels to 11-6 on the season.
Doubles play started with the #3 duo of Isaac Shenton (Saint Thomas, PA/James Buchanan) and Alec Levin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) falling 1-6 to begin the day's action. #1 Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) and Mike Ellis (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) took a couple more games from the Huskies before being doubled up 6-3. Bloomsburg closed out doubles with a 6-4 win at #2 over Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) and Colin Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) to head into singles play up 1-0.
#5 Greenman dropped the first singles match of the day in straight sets 1-6, 1-6.
The Huskies continued to roll with a 6-1, 6-2 win over #3 Larry Scartz (Woodbridge, VA/Home School) before taking the #6 match over Levin 6-1, 6-0.
#2 White fell by identical 2-6, 2-6 scores to his opponent as the Huskies clinched the match.
Mike Ellis (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) battled in his #4 match before eventually falling 4-6, 2-6 but #1 Maderitz got the Colonels on the board winning 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) to close out the day for the navy and gold.
The Colonels return to the Ralston Athletic Complex for Senior Day on Saturday, April 27th when they host Delaware Valley at 11:00 a.m.
