Wilkes Men's Tennis Caps off Undefeated MAC Freedom Regular Season
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team closed out their regular season slate with a 9-0 senior day victory over Delaware Valley at the Ralston Athletic Complex on Saturday.
The Colonels finish the conference regular season a perfect 7-0 while improving to 12-6 overall.
The match started with a win by default at #3 doubles for Isaac Shenton (Saint Thomas, PA/James Buchanan) and Matt Angara (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg). In #2 doubles, Braddock Chow (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) and Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) blanked their opponents 8-0 before #1 Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) and Andrew MacDonald (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) capped off the sweep by doubling up the Aggies 8-4.
Angara and Shenton would again pick up wins by default at #5 and #6 singles respectively which clinched the match for the navy and gold.
#1 Murphy and #2 White had little difficulty in their singles matches as they cruised to 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 wins respectively.
#3 Chow earned a singles win as he won in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 before Andrew MacDonald (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the #4 spot.
The Colonels four seniors, Chow, MacDonald, Murphy and White, each won twice on the day.
#1 Wilkes stays at home as it will host a MAC Freedom semifinal match on Tuesday, April 30th with the time and opponent still to be determined.
