Wilkes Women's Tennis Wins 9-0 on Senior Day
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team defeated Delaware Valley 9-0 at the Ralston Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The match started with a win by default at #3 doubles for Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) before #1 Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and Nicole Gaetani (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) beat the Aggies 8-2. #2 Erin Volutza (Sinking Spring, PA/Lancaster Catholic) and Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) finished off the sweep of doubles with an 8-5 victory.
#6 Yakhnis would again pick up a win by default to begin the singles portion of the match.
#1 Vasarkovy breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 victory while Volutza dropped just one game in her #3 match, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) earned a win at #4 singles by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores before #2 Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
#5 Gaetani closed out the match in 6-3, 6-1 fashion.
Wilkes' senior trio of Gaetani, Vasarkovy and Volutza all went 2-0 on the day.
Wilkes wraps up its regular season slate with a 2:00 p.m. match against Manhattanville on Sunday, April 28th at Wyoming Valley Indoor Tennis.
