Wilkes Women's Tennis Finishes MAC Freedom Regular Season 7-0

KINGSTON, PA – After clinching the #1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament yesterday, the Wilkes University women's tennis team had one Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom match remaining on their schedule to close out the regular season slate. The Colonels headed indoors on Sunday at Wyoming Valley Indoor Tennis and completed another undefeated conference regular season with a 9-0 blanking of Manhattanville.

The Colonels finish the regular season 13-4 overall and 7-0 in the MAC Freedom.

Doubles play started with the #3 duo of Dana Saliyev (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) and Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) breezing to an 8-0 win. That was followed by another 8-0 Colonels win from #2 Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) and Laura Zielinski (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern). Wilkes completed the doubles sweep as #1 Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) dropped just one game on their way to an 8-1 victory.

Singles play began with a trio of 6-0, 6-0 wins from #4 Saliyev, #5 Zielinski and #3 Yakhnis respectively, with Zielinski clinching the match for the navy and gold.

Varela-Seri won by scores of 6-0, 6-1 at #2 singles before #1 Vasarkovy finished victorious in 6-1, 6-4 fashion.

#6 Erin Volutza (Sinking Spring, PA/Lancaster Catholic) closed out the match with another 6-0, 6-0 win, the Colonels fourth in singles action.

#1 Wilkes returns to the Ralston Athletic Complex on Wednesday, May 1st when it hosts a MAC Freedom semifinal match against the same #4 Manhattanville Valiants with the time to be announced.
