Wilkes Men's Tennis Advances to MAC Freedom Championship
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team won their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) semifinal over FDU-Florham 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex to move on to Saturday's championship.
The win improves Wilkes to 13-6 overall on the season and one victory away from their 12th straight MAC Freedom title.
The #1 doubles match was the closest one of the day as #1 Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) and Andrew MacDonald (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) edged out their opponents 8-7. Braddock Chow (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) and Mike Ellis (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) faced little trouble in their #2 doubles match, winning 8-3 while #3 Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) and Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) blanked the Devils in an 8-0 affair.
Heading into singles needing just two more points to clinch the match, #1 Murphy breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory with #2 Maderitz shutting out his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
With the Colonels clinching the match at 5-0 the other four singles matches were left unfinished.
Wilkes will host the championship match on Saturday, with the time to be determined, against #2 Manhattanville who defeated #3 DeSales 5-1.
