Jedlicka's Laser Lifts Wilkes Women's Soccer to 2-1 Win over Berks
EDWARDSVILLE – Kiana Jedlicka's (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) 78th-minute laser lifted the Wilkes University women's soccer team to a 2-1 season-opening win over Penn State Berks at Schmidt Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The Colonels are now 1-0 on the young season.
Haley Evans (Deptford, NJ/GCIT) opened the scoring for the 2019 season in the ninth minute when she curved a perfect corner kick around the defense from the left side into the far corner for the 1-0 lead.
Wilkes came inches away from pushing its lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute when Allison Peet (Sayre, PA/Sayre) lined a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced away from the net.
The Colonels controlled play throughout the first half, entering halftime holding onto the 1-0 advantage.
Penn State Berks netted an equalizer in the 66th minute to knot the score at 1-1.
Jedlicka put the Colonels back in front when Alyssa Keister (Middleburg, PA/Midd-West) picked up the rebound off of a missed corner kick and passed it up to Jedlicka who sprinted three-quarters up the left side of the field and launched a perfect shot from the left side just over the keeper and into the right corner of the net.
Samantha Cecere (Batavia, NY/Batavia) made two saves in net while facing nine shots.
Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday when it will host Ithaca College for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game.
