Box Score 3 Wilkes Women's Volleyball Takes One at CSU Quad Match
CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa – The Colonels traveled to Clarks Summit Saturday to play three matches for the CSU Quad Match, taking one of three matches on the day.
The Colonels finished the day at 2-2 for the season, dropping to host Clarks Summit in a 3-2 affair, defeating Penn College in their second 3-0 victory of the season, before falling to Lycoming in the afternoon match 3-0. A box score for the Clarks Summit match was unavailable at the time of writing.
After falling to host Clarks Summit, the Colonels bounced back in a big way against Penn College. An 11-1 run in the middle of the first set gave Wilkes a decisive edge in the 25-10 set. Penn College put up more resistance in the second set before Wilkes sealed the 25-17 set victory with a 6-1 run. The Colonels clinched their second straight sets victory of the young season with another 25-17 victory in the third set.
As a team, Wilkes held Penn College to a -.044 hitting percentage for the match. Senior opposite hitter
Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley) led the Colonels in three categories with eight kills, four aces, and 11 digs. Sophomore setter
Karlye Huffman (Sugar Run, PA/Wyalusing) led all Colonels with 15 assists in the match.
In the final match, the Colonels fell short against Lycoming 3-2. Wilkes held Lycoming to .024 hitting percentage as a team. Individual stats were not available for this match at the time of writing.
The Colonels continue their road swing Tuesday against Lancaster Bible College in a nonconference battle. The Colonels will start play at 7:00 p.m. in Lancaster, Pa.
