Wilkes Women's Soccer Falls to Scranton 3-2

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's soccer team fell to the University of Scranton in non-conference action by a 3-2 final at Schmidt Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Colonels are now 2-4-1 overall.

Scranton got on the board first with a goal in the 14th minute.

Emily Bidelspach (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) tied the score right at the 50-minute mark when Jessica Egan (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) played a through-ball that found Bidelspach up the left sideline with a step on a Royals defender that Bidelspach placed in the top right corner.

The tie did not last long as Scranton retook the lead 53 seconds later.

Emily Wirth (Vestal, NY/Vestal) found herself with a scoring opportunity in the 63rd minute but it sailed over the net.

The Royals added a third goal in the 64th minute.

The Colonels found another opportunity when Haley Evans (Deptford, NJ/GCIT) sent in a corner kick from the left side that sailed past the defense and found Lexi Gaetano (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) for a header opportunity that went high.

Delfina Bracchi (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip) brought Wilkes to within one score in the 80th minute when J. Egan played the ball in from the right corner to the middle, with Scranton's defense expecting an offside and allowing Bracchi a wide-open shot, which she buried past the Royal's keeper.

The Colonels put forth a last-ditch effort over the last three minutes but were unable to put home the equalizer.

Samantha Cecere (Batavia, NY/Batavia) made three saves in net for Wilkes.

The Colonels return to action on Saturday when they will travel to Marywood University for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game.
